Lehigh Valley Main line Evolution

Lehigh Valley Railroad / Conrail

Main Line West of Jersey City, NJ.

Submitted by Geoff Hubbs, Brooklyn, NY

This example will follow the Lehigh Valley Main Line from Jersey City towards Lehighton PA. The September 25, 1938 (System) TT No.6 (below) has the schedules and station pages combined. This was common in the 1930s and 40s on many railroads including New York Central, DL&W and others. All other information such as interlockings and sidings is in the Special Instructions.

In the late 1960s, the Lehigh Valley was under the fluence of the Pennsylvania RR and adopted their format. This August 10, 1975 (System) TT No.10 example includes interlockings, block stations and sidings. At this point the only schedules were Central of New Jersey RR commuter trains which are shown in later pages.

Finally this Conrail (Shared Assets) May 1, 2017 TT 13 example now includes strip maps and is followed immediately by Signal Rules in Effect and Speed Limits. This format is also used now by CSX and Norfolk Southern.
